Sierra City celebrates its 150th birthday on June 21-22

Sierra City celebrates its 150th birthday the weekend of June 21-22. The highlight will be the melodrama Never Trust a Sierra City Slicker at the Kentucky Mine Amphitheatre.

There also will be live walking tours, living history activities, a historic photo exhibit and a picnic in the park. You can pose for a vintage portrait and even be thrown into the hoosegow (a term for jail in the mid-1800s). For more information visit SierraCountyHistory.org.

In Nevada City, the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum is dedicated to the preservation of local transportation history and artifacts from the narrow gauge railroad era.

Visitors are offered a docent-led tour of the museum, rail yard and restoration shop. Exhibited in the main gallery is Engine 5, an 1875 Baldwin that began service hauling lumber, then passengers and freight and finally as a movie engine at Universal Studios in Hollywood.
