Sierra Stages, CATS, Quest, Le Gacy among leaders in 2016 Elly award nominations

Sierra Stages, Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra, Quest Theaterworks and LeGacy Presents all were nominated for prestigious Elly awards, the Sacramento Regional Theatre Alliance announced. Named for the late Eleanor McClatchy, a devoted patron of the arts and former publisher of the Sacramento Bee, the Elly Awards celebrate excellence and the outstanding achievements of community theaters and artists in the greater Sacramento area.

Sierra Stages received five nominations, including four for “The Producers.” CATS received four nominations — including overall production — for “Chinglish.” Quest Theaterworks earned three nominations (“Boondoggle” and “Endgame”) and LeGacy Presents received one (“The Crucible”).

The Adult Elly Award ceremony will be 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at The Center at 2300, 2300 Sierra Boulevard in Sacramento. The Youth Elly Award ceremony will be 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at Cosumnes Oaks High School Performing Arts Center in Elk Grove.

The nominations for 86 Elly awards totaled 419. Seventy five participating theatres submitted 235 productions.
