Sierra Stages’ sixth season is a blockbuster: Peter Pan, Charlie Brown and Company

Stephen Sondheim’s landmark musical comedy “Company”, J.M. Barrie’s original version of the classic “Peter Pan” and the long-running Off Broadway musical “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” make up the three shows in Sierra Stages 6th Season beginning in February 2014.

In addition, the nonprofit local theatre group will present David Auburn’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Proof” for a limited run.

For the 6th consecutive year, Sierra Stages offers a very affordable 3-Show Season Pass. The 3- Show Season Pass is priced at only $55 (just over $18 per show) and allows theatregoers to select any performance of “Company”, “Peter Pan” and “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown.”

Sierra Stages also invites each Season Pass holder to become a Sierra Stages Member and support quality local theatre. Memberships begin at $25 per person and are tax deductible. Not only will Members have the satisfaction of helping support quality theatre, but also they will be able to reserve specific seat locations for two of the productions (“Company” and “Peter Pan”) at the Nevada Theatre in Nevada City.

Sierra Stages is a nonprofit community theatre based in western Nevada County with a mission to provide quality productions that are affordable and accessible to everyone. Offering a 3- Show Season Pass for $55 is part of its mission to provide affordable theatre.

Since it began only five years ago, Sierra Stages has presented twenty (20) plays and musicals and has been recognized by the Sacramento Area Regional Theatre Alliance with five Elly Awards and 33 Elly Award nominations. The annual Elly Awards honor outstanding achievements of community theatres and artists in the greater Sacramento area. Sierra Stages performs at various local venues, including the Nevada Theatre in Nevada City and the Off Center Stage in Grass Valley.

The 2014 Season opens with the landmark musical comedy “Company” playing from February 27 through March 22 at the Nevada Theatre in Nevada City.

With a score by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth, “Company” focuses on 35-year old bachelor Robert, his five married-couple friends, and his three current girlfriends. Through a series of scenes between Robert and each couple and between Robert and each girlfriend, the authors explore the meaning of marriage and commitment in today’s world.

The musical numbers include some of Sondheim’s best — “You Could Drive a Person Crazy”, “The Ladies Who Lunch”, “Barcelona”,”Marry Me A Little”, “Side by Side by Side”, and “Being Alive” among others.

“Company” is directed by Jac Royce, with musical direction by Ken Getz and musical staging by Becky Browning. Set design is by Mike Edwards, lighting design is by Erin Beatie and costume design is by Cynthia Levesque. “Company” features a full orchestra, including four women “pit” singers who comprise “The Vocal Minority.”

From July 10 through August 2 at the Nevada Theatre, Sierra Stages presents J.M. Barrie’s original version of “Peter Pan”. Ignite your imagination and rediscover one of the great adventures of all time, a spectacular journey into the world of childhood that will capture the hearts and imaginations of all ages.

A strange visitor arrives through the Darling children’s nursery window and whisks Wendy, Michael and John away to a magical land in this legendary adventure of pirates, fairies and fantasy. “Peter Pan” is the perfect entertainment for families this summer.

The third show in the 3-Show Season Pass is the Off-Broadway classic “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” at the Off Center Stage in Grass Valley from September 18 through October 12.

This delightfully infectious musical has charmed audiences for almost 50 years. From the trials of first loves and little league championships to battles with book reports and kite-eating trees, spend a day in the life of the inept but ever-hopeful Charlie Brown as he searches for what it means to be a good person, finding unexpected answers from his friends Lucy, Linus, Schroeder, Patty and Snoopy.

In addition to its 3-Show Season, Sierra Stages will present a limited run of the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Proof” from May 1 through May 18 at the Off Center Stage in Grass Valley. An entertaining and moving play, “Proof” asks whether there is a link between genius and madness, as Catherine worries she has inherited both from her mathematician father.

Sierra Stages presents its 6th Season: “Company”, “Peter Pan”, and “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” plus a special presentation of “Proof.”
