View one of the first motorcycles to visit Yosemite in 1914

In the fall of 1914, Robert F. Baker adventured into Yosemite on this 1912 Indian motorcycle. It was one of the first motorcycles to enter Yosemite National Park.

Baker was stopped by a ranger at Crane Flat, as motorized vehicles were not allowed in the park at that time.

Two years later, Baker joined the Army to fight in World War I. Prior to his departure, he dismantled the motorcycle and hid it in several small boxes so his mother couldn’t easily sell it while he was away. He assembled it decades later and donated it to the park in the early 1960s. It now resides in the Yosemite Museum.”
