Wild & Scenic seeks environmental artwork for Film Festival

The Wild & Scenic Film Festival, in collaboration with Nevada County Arts, is once again inviting all local and regional artists to submit their environmental artwork for possible inclusion at the 2016 Wild & Scenic Film Festival in Nevada City and Grass Valley, CA during the film festival January 14-18, 2016.

The film festival theme is “A Change of Course.” Artists are encouraged to submit pieces that address this theme, particularly as it relates to nature and human interaction with our environment. “The featured artwork enhances the entire film festival experience,” said Melinda Booth, Film Festival Director. “We’re excited to see differing interpretations of our theme manifest in creative works of art displayed throughout Nevada City and Grass Valley.”

“We are seeking environmental artwork that delivers a meaningful message,” said Brian Buckley, of Nevada County Arts. “There are a host of talented artists who are passionate about the environment, and we are excited to give them an opportunity to showcase their very best.”

This is especially true this year, as Governor Brown has specifically asked for the arts community to get involved with the water/environmental issues so important to Californians. One of his appointees, and current Chair of the California Art Council, Donn Harris, will be a judge for this year’s Wild and Scenic Art Exhibition.

Selected artists will have the opportunity to showcase their work in front of environmental filmmakers, celebrities, social activists and more than 5,500 festival attendees. Artists will also be considered for awards in 4 categories: 2-Dimensional, 3-Dimensional, Photography, and Best Interpretation of Theme. Twelve high-quality, attractive venues in Nevada City and Grass Valley have been selected as display partners for the event. Each of these beautiful display venues will also participate as a “serving station” for the always popular Wild and Happy Hour art, wine & beer strolls during the festival.

Artists can enter up to 3 pieces per entry in a single category. The final deadline to apply is November 1, but discounts are available for earlier submissions. An early bird deadline (for a reduced submission fee of $20) is September 18. Timely submissions (between 9/19 and 10/16) are $30 per entry. Late submissions (10/13-11/1) are $40. The entry fee for student artists (up to 19 years of age) is $5. For more information or to register online, visit https://wildandscenicfilmfestivalartexhibition.artcall.org/.
