Nevada City Uncorked on August 25: Wine, Food & Historic Flavor

NEVADA CITY’S VICTORIAN ELEGANCE presents the perfect backdrop to showcase Nevada City Uncorked, an annual celebration of wine and food, on August 25.

Uncorked is a sip-and-stroll event that includes 17 venues featuring local food purveyors and wineries. Each venue, whether it’s a historic location, winery, art gallery, inn, restaurant, shop, or secret hide-away, includes wine and food sampling.

Uncorked is proud to showcase the wines of the northern Sierra Foothills. This year features wineries from Placer, Nevada, Yuba, Butte, and Tehama counties, including one winery that boasted the biggest wine cellar in the world in the 1880s. From albarino to zinfandel, Uncorked offers a gateway to the wines from California’s northern frontier.

In addition to the wines, 17 restaurants, caterers, and specialty shops as diverse as a salumeria, a cheese maker, and a chocolatier will offer an array of tasty bites and signature dishes. Uncorked encourages a connection, as much as possible, between local farms and participating food purveyors.

New this year, are two Friday Uncorked events. The first is an intimate, unscripted Winemaker Symposium in the Nevada City Winery barrel room from 4-5 p.m. Three of Nevada County’s best winemakers, Mark Henry from Montoliva, Jackson Starr from Sierra Starr and Mark Foster from Nevada City Winery, will sit on the panel moderated by Rod Byers. The discussion will focus on the future of winemaking in our region and the need, or not, for a flagship varietal.

The Symposium is free but still requires a ticket. Request Symposium tickets when you purchase your Uncorked tickets. Tickets are limited.

After the Symposium in the barrel room there will be a winemaker reception in the Nevada City Winery tasting room from 5-7 p.m. This is an opportunity to meet a few Uncorked winemakers in a casual, informal setting.

Nevada City has long been known as the “Queen of the Northern Mines” and a gem of the northern foothills. Uncorked is sponsored by the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce. For tickets and more information, visit NevadaCityChamber.com/Uncorked. – Rod Byers
