Placer Arts Studios Tour Nov. 9-11: Celebrating Local Art

IN THE 1990’S, LOCAL BATIK ARTIST Helen Phillips attended the Sonoma County Studios Tour. Inspired by talented artists and energetic attendees, she opened her own studio for a three-hour experience, and 75 people showed up to enjoy her art. Along with support from PlacerArts and the Lincoln Arts Council, she reached out to local artists and developed a tour locally.

One of those artists was Janet Nicholson of Nicholson Blown Glass, a studio that had been operating since 1979 and relocated to Auburn in 1981. Janet and her husband, Rick, are the only artists to have been on the tour since the beginning.

Janet is well respected and an enthusiastic supporter of all arts, and she is this year’s recipient of the Helen Phillips Founder Award. “It has been a joy to be a part of our local art community and the tour for the past 25 years,” says Janet.

The annual Placer Artists Studios Tour — one of the biggest and longest running art shows in the region and presented by the Arts Council of Placer County — is Nov. 10-12, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The three-day, self-guided driving tour showcases the work of 74 artists in their studios at 39 studios and six galleries in Roseville, Granite Bay, Rocklin, Lincoln, Loomis, Penryn, Newcastle, Auburn, Meadow Vista and Colfax; and includes free preview events.
