The Beer Show on KVMR debuts March 17

A new show takes to the airways on KVMR 89.5 FM on Friday, March 17 at noon. The goal of the program is to promote craft beer knowledge and good beer appreciation and to entertain the listenership of KVMR radio’s audience.

The new program features two well-known personalities in the Nevada City-Grass Valley area, Tom Dalldorf and Wesley Robertson, nicknamed the “Suds Buds.”

Tom Dalldorf is editor and publisher of Celebrator Beer News, the oldest craft beer newspaper in North America (founded 1988), who has been in the beer, wine and food industry for nearly 40 years. He founded the Vintage Cellar Winebar Cafe in Hayward, Calif., in 1979, has lectured for UC Berkeley Extension on the Wines of California and Europe and judged at several major competitions including the American Wine Competition in New York and the West Coast Wine Competition in Reno.

More recently Tom was the Head Judge for the California State Fair Craft Beer Competition. He was also a wine-oriented speechwriter for the late comedian Pat Paulsen. He has traveled extensively in the U.S. to cover the beer scene and visited breweries in England, Ireland, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Thailand, Canada and Mexico.

Tom moved to Nevada City in 2008 with his wife Arlene. Tom majored in political science at California State University, Hayward, and is lead singer of The Rolling Boil Blues Band, the brewing industry’s premier musical group.

Wesley Robertson is a native Californian. He moved to the Nevada City City-Grass Valley area from the central coast in ’87. Within months Wesley enrolled in the KVMR broadcaster class and started doing substitute work on various country-influenced shows (Hard Country, Hillbilly Jukebox & the California Okie shows).

As of April 1990, Wesley was awarded his first and still current show on KVMR, Rockin-N-Stompin, Saturdays from 2-4 p.m. He has played a major role in bringing live music broadcast to the air-waves of KVMR. Wesley caught the bug while helping Eric Rice as a volunteer for the live broadcast of the California Bluegrass Association’s Father’s Day Weekend Festival.

He then started producing the live broadcast of multiple festivals (WorldFest, KVMR’s Celtic Festival, High Sierra, American River Music Festival and Hangtown Halloween). He also has another long running series of live broadcast from various venues in the region, KVMR On The Road Live.

In 2013 Wesley retired from the Placer County Health and Human Resources Department after 30 years. Wesley has a grown daughter and lives in Auburn with his wife Marian.

The new show will gain an instant audience via “listening parties” held at various breweries, pubs and restaurants within KVMR’s extensive listening area. The self-styled “Suds Buds” hope to cultivate a loyal following amongst the growing numbers of craft beer enthusiasts in this area and across the country via the Internet at KVMR.org.

Their goal is to inform listeners of the most current news about all things associated with the craft beer world, to be a vehicle for listeners to access expert information in an interactive way (call-ins) in subjects such as home brewing, new industry trends and updates on regional events associated with the ever-expanding craft beer culture and to bring awareness and informed appreciation of craft beer to the KVMR community.
